Μαρίκα Καραγιάννη

Επιστημονικός Συνεργάτης

Marika Karagianni is a legal and international relations expert specialized on European and international energy issues focusing on Russia, the Caspian- Central Asia, East Med and MENA (Middle East- North Africa) regions.
She holds a University Degree in Law from the Kapodistrian University of Athens, a Master/ D.E.A. in European Political and Administrative Studies from the College of Europe/ Bruges and a PhD on “The institutional aspects of off-shore hydrocarbons development in the Caspian Sea” from the Democritus University of Thrace. She has received an award Robert Schumann at the European Parliament, (1999) and a full scholarship of the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation for special training on Caspian energy issues in Moscow (2002). She has attended the NATO SCHOOL- OBERAMMERGAU, Petroleum course (2014), the Baku Summer Energy School (2011) of Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government (2014).

She has served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic as a special advisor to the Minister (2000) and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs (2004- 2006) on bilateral economic and energy relations of Greece with Russia and CIS countries, also member of the negotiation team of Greece for Burgas- Alexandroupolis oil pipeline and South Stream gas pipeline, MFA coordinator of the Hellenic Chairmanship at the BSEC (Black Sea Economic Cooperation 1/11/2004- 30/4/2005) and energy expert of the BSEC. Also, an Adjunct Fellow at the Western Policy Center and Woodraw Wilson Center (2004-2005), Washington DC. For the period 2006-2007, she was advisor to the Minister of Interior and Public Order. As of 2006, she is a permanent expert at the same Ministry. She is also an enlisted election observer of the OSCE and the EU and she has monitored elections in Kyrgyzstan, Georgia (2005), Armenia (2007), Azerbaijan (2008) and Tunisia (2018).

She participates and gives presentations in international energy conferences on global oil and gas developments and is publishing extensively on global energy developments. She travels frequently in the Caspian and MENA regions. Also contributor at www.energia.gr, www.energypress.gr, www.neweurope.eu and ADA (Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy/ Baku).
